The plumbers at M.E. Flow are joining water utilities around the country to celebrate Drinking Water Week, May 7 -13, by recognizing the vital role that water plays in daily lives. This year’s Drinking Water Week will focus on the ways in which consumers can take responsibility in caring for their home’s drinking water and water use.

M.E. Flow can help you identify how much water your home may be wasting in a few ways:

  • Schedule a whole-home plumbing inspection and we’ll help you identify water leaks, reduce your water usage, and help you care for your plumbing pipes.
  • Do it yourself— test your toilet for leaks by requesting free dye tablets

According to the EPA, the average household’s leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year. A leaking faucet that drips at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. That’s the amount of water needed to take 180 showers!

A tell-tale sign that something may be going on is a high water bill. In addition to noisy toilets and dripping faucets. Toilet and faucet leaks are the biggest culprits of water leaks. These leaks are usually caused by worn-out seals and gaskets and can be replaced during your whole home plumbing service.

You can also conserve your water use through the following actions:

  • Be conscious of your daily water—especially with your outdoor faucet during the summer
  • Be sure that your indoor and outdoor leaking pipes ,faucets, and toilets are repaired
  • Install low flow shower heads
  • Replace toilets with low water use models

In celebration of Drinking Water Week, we encourage our neighbors in Northern Virginia to call their local plumber M.E. Flow, with office locations in Alexandria, Leesburg, and Winchester to schedule a whole home plumbing inspection. You can use a plumbing coupon to save water and fix your leaking toilet, faucet, or other plumbing problem.
